Very sad and emotional scenes.

This year all Chinese and the world knew about the devastating Si Chuan earthquake.

This earthquake destroyed many lives and properties. Thousands dead even more injured or homeless. All gone just in a day. However we only see the effects on TV and papers.

Last Sunday through the recommendations of Weng Fai, I brought my sister said to able to heal people, sort of Qi Gong.

We reached the place, the building is very run-down. Outside there are many people queuing for treatment. Inside is a school hall with many healers and patients. People of all sort come here for treatment, male, female, young and old.

Seeing old people on walking sticks, wheel chairs is still not a very disheartening sight. At least these people had been through normal, happy childhood and adulthood, before down with elderly illness.

1) Saw a young boy no more than 10 years old seated on the wheel-chair. His neck hanging down and no strength in his limbs, seemed unconscious of the surroundings.

2) A young girl around 15 years old seated on the wheel-chair, conscious of the surroundings. Just that her legs cannot walk.

I left pitiful and helpless. Why are these young innocent kids need to be indifferent from the rest. I am no religious person, but why God want to do this to them?

I admire and held respect for their parents, brining them all the way, carrying onto the wheel-chair just to wait for a glimmer of hope each day. For these parents, even if there was a minor improvement, they would be overjoyed.

I remembered during my NS time, inside my officer's office he pasted some pictures, which affected me forever.

Each morale there are 2 pictures.

1 picture showed a pair of Nike and Adidas shoes. Captioned "Nike or Adidas".
The picture on the right showed a pair of bare feet. Captioned "They got no shoes to wear".

1 picture showed a weight loss programe.
The picture on the right showed a African kid reduced to bones, malnutrition.. Captioned "They got no food to eat".

From then on, I told myself to be contented, and there are people far worse than me.

As long you are healthy, able to think, eat, take care of yourself... you are far more fortunate than the rest.

Once somebody say, when we are born everyone is winner. Why is this so? Because out of the thousands/ millions of sperm that fertilized the egg, only 1 succeeds. Forming another life. So everybody is born champion.

Your parents are also the greatest people in the world.

My life had always been singing Chen Lei's "Hua Yee Tio Ho" Kai xin jiu hao. If you know hokkien and understand the lyrics, the song is very meaningful.

I hope this treatment could improve my sister's condition and the rest of the people seeking a glimmer of hope.

My most heart-thumping move

I had finally ...

RESIGNED!!!

Waiting 7th July for the next chapter of my career.

Aviva to cut 1,800 insurance jobs

Aviva to cut 1,800 insurance jobs

Aviva, the owner of Norwich Union, will cut up to 1,800 jobs by 2010 as it restructures its insurance operations.

Aviva called the move "rationalisation" but the Unite union described the job cuts as "brutal".

"This news for staff that their jobs are now in jeopardy is truly devastating," United added.

Norwich Union insurance operations will be shifted away from cities including Glasgow, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and Southampton.

Offices in Dundee, Basildon, Ipswich, Exeter, and Worthing will also be affected.

However the firm said other parts of its business would still have a presence in those locations.

The bulk of its insurance business will now operate from seven "centres of excellence" based in Norwich, Perth, Bishopbriggs, Stretford, Manchester, Leicester and Southend.

"We want to deliver excellent, consistent and reliable customer service with market leading efficiency," said the chief executive of Norwich Union Insurance, Igal Mayer.

Andy Case of Unite said job losses had become 'a way of life' for Aviva staff.

"To achieve this we will need to fundamentally simplify our business, consolidating our expertise into seven insurance centres of the future in the UK."

Relocation 'inconceivable'

Aviva was formed from the merger of Norwich Union and CGU in 2000.

It provides savings, investments and insurance products.

Earlier this year, Aviva, announced it was ditching the 200-year-old Norwich Union brand to forge a single identity to compete in international markets.

Unite's deputy secretary, Graham Goddard, said Aviva was "rapidly withdrawing" commitment to local communities and was "isolating themselves in a small number of cities".

"The suggestion that employees will be able to relocate appears to be inconceivable for most of those affected," he added.

Beware of teenages asking you to buy $2 paperclips for an entreprenuer project or to graduate from their course.

Its a scam by a notorious MLM(multi-level marketing) company.

More about the scam click here.

please be aware that paper-folded stars are being sold instead of paper-clips in some occasions, as observed by some pple who have reported this in the thread. do not buy these paper-folded stars frm these teens. these teens have also changed tack, in the sense that they will claim that they are doing a business project as part of their course in their respective schools etc. please, do not buy anything with them. alternatively, if they harass you, report to the police asap.

some teens are alleged to have been involved in selling 'paper clips' as 'part of a school or entrepreneurial course'. they claim to be "either from polytechnics such as tp and nyp and even frm universities such as smu, trying to earn a certain amount of money in a certain period of time and is part of their course required for graduation."

the following pix are screenshots taken frm the blogs of the members. i believe most of the blogs have been shut down as of this moment. the screenshots of the blogs highlight some of the activities they have taken part in as part of an 'entrepreneurial course' organised by sunshine empire, and in addition it probably highlights the basic fact that the money they have earned through paper-clip selling is used to finance their holidays, not for passing any of their school courses as they have claimed to those pple who have bought the heart shaped paper clips frm them. an example of the paper-clip is shown here:

please note that in light of recent exposure of their acitivities, the shapes of the paper-clips may change and vary and may not adhere to the one shown in the picture above. nonetheless, be careful and vigilant.

if someone attempts to sell you a paper-clip that resembles this or some other handmade product and they are unable to give you a satisfactory explanation as to why they are selling this, please, do not buy anything for them. if it's a legitimate school course, the schools involved would have applied for a permit/licence that allows the students to engage in such activities. most imptly, the student would probably have shown you a valid licence issued by the school.

i want to emphasize that this thread is here to create positive awareness. pls, if you are reading this thread, and if you have friends who are seen in the following pix, advise your friends not to engage in such 'paper clip selling' activities. a police report has already been lodged. activities of sunshine empire have been deemed suspicious by the authorities and cad, and investigations into the company are still on-going with regards to whether the company has legally breached the law.

there is no free lunch in this world. if you want money, earn it through the proper channel.

Above text taken from the blog above. Dear Singaporeans, please be prudent with your money.

No free lunch in the world
Even legalised, established bank offer interests rates at 0.25%
At most fixed deposit is also 2-3% for value below 1 million.

How can a company not established and from a shady background able to promise their private investors 100, 200, 300 or even 1000% returns!!!

Even stockmarket guru, Warren Buffet able to achieve around 40% for his investment. This is after months or even years of reading financial reports/ finanical news/ seeking advice and even going to the ground and research.

Even a guru like him also say there is nothing 100% guaranteed.

Never believe High Risk and High Returns.
